Root Android 4.1.2 XWLSW firmware for Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100

The XWLSW firmware update has been released for the Galaxy S2 I9100 in Europe. Now you can apply root for this firmware easily using the instructions that I have listed in this post. Read the entire post and you should be able to complete the update in no time.
Rooting a smartphone is easy and you can apply all the changes in to time using a Syiah kernel that has to be flashed using ODIN app. If you root your device, you will be able to install new custom ROMs and other similar customization files that allows users to tinker with their device’s operating system. Usually, such changes are applied in order to improve the performance of a smartphone or changing its looks only, as it depends on every users preference.
In order to make sure that you successfully apply root for your device, you will first need to take a look over the preparation guide below:

• use this tutorial only with the Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 model. Don’t attempt to root any other smartphone using the files you find here.
• your device is running stock firmware now and you should try to backup some of your most important data before continuing to the next step of this post.
• rooting your Galaxy S2 will void its warranty and you can restore it only by installing a new firmware official OTA update that’s released by Samsung.
• make sure that your computer features the Samsung USB drivers. If it doesn’t then you can download this from here.
• enable the USB Debugging option from your smartphone’s Developer Options.
• disable all antivirus programs and the Samsung KIES software from running on your PC. These apps when running will block ODIN and your cannot flash the root files.
• this guide should be applied only by advanced users. Don’t use this guide if you don’t know how to run ODIN and flash tar.md5 files.
• note that we cannot be held responsible in case you brick your device in the process.
• make sure that the phone’s battery has enough power left before switching off completely.
• if the device powers off while you’re trying to install the root then it might get bricked, which is something that you don’t want to see it happen.
• read the entire post and make sure not to skip any steps that are listed here.

How to root the Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 running on Android 4.2.2 XWLSW Jelly Bean firwmare:

1. Download the Siyah Kernel file from HERE. The complete filename is Siyah-s2-v6.0b5.tar and you shouldn’t extract its contents.
2. Download ODIN 3.07 from HERE. Extract the contents of this zip and save them on your PC.
   > if ODIN 3.07 doesn’t work with this guide, then you can try to use the 3.04 (here) or the 1.85 (here) ODIN versions instead.
3. Power off your smartphone completely.
4. Boot it into Download Mode. If you don’t know how to do it, then use this guide here. (that’s a guide for Galaxy S4 but the actions that you have to take are the same.)
5. Launch ODIN executable on your computer.
6. Use the USB cable and connect the phone to your PC. ODIN will say ‘added!!’ and you can continue to the next step.
   > if ODIN doesn’t recognize your device, then you can try to reinstall USB Drivers or change the USB ports.
7. In Odin, click on ‘PDA’ button.
8. Now, find the ‘Siyah-s2-v6.0b5.tar’ file and load it into the program.
   > make sure that the Re-Partition option is not enabled.
   > don’t change any Odin default settings.
9. Next, click the START button when everything is ready for the installation process to begin. Wait several minutes until the root is complete.
10. After the root is installed, you will see that the device has rebooted and ODIN says ‘PASS’.
11. Unplug the phone from PC when the Samsung boot animation appears.
12. Enter your Google Account details when the phone boots into normal mode.
13. That’s it, these were all the steps that you had to take in order to successfully root your smartphone.

In case ODIN doesn’t complete the root, then you will be forced to unplug the phone from PC, close ODIN and after that you have to repeat the entire tutorial starting with step 3. This time you have to make sure that you don’t skip any steps that I have listed in the tutorial above.
Also, you might want to try the other versions of Odin in case the Odin3 v3.07 doesn’t seem to work with your Galaxy S2. The download links for the other versions are listed in step 2.
