Root Samsung Galaxy S2 on DXLP9 ICS 4.0.3 Firmware

If you own a Galaxy S2 GT I9100 handset and want to update its OS to Ice Cream Sandwich, you should know that there are many ways to do so. The best method is by installing a custom ROM into its system, of course a firmware which is being based and developed on the Android 4.0 software. The DXLP9 firmware can be one of those ROMs (though it’s the official update released by Samsung for Singapore and Thailand), a perfect opportunity for upgrading your phone’s capabilities. But, for taking full advantage of your Galaxy S2 you must then gain root access over its new DXLP9 ICS 4.0.3 OS. That’s exactly what I am about to teach you in the following step by step guide, so check it out.
As you know, the root access is revoked when you install a firmware, or when you apply an update (official or not it doesn’t matter) on your device. So, if you had recently updated your Galaxy S2 with DXLP9 ICS 4.0.3 firmware, then you will have to learn how to root the same. Don’t follow any kinds of tutorials for completing a rooting operation as you can brick your phone. Each guide is being developed for one firmware particularly and you shouldn’t apply the same for other operating systems different than the one specified by us.
By rooting the Galaxy S2 GT I9100 you will void the warranty. But performing this operation will enable you to flash further ROMs, or apps on your Android powered smartphone. If you will want to restore the warranty all that you have to do is to downgrade to the official version of the Android OS as the bootloader will then be re-locked. Don’t worry as you can damage the system only if you do things by yourselves; if you follow a step by step guide like this one is unlikely to do something wrong.
But, for avoiding any kind of unpleasant situations, I recommend you to backup the Galaxy S2 first. You can save the messages, contacts, call logs, data, apps and any other file you need to. Also, if you have ClockworkMod recovery installed (and you must have it if you want to root your S2) then you will be able to backup the current ROM too. In case you somehow brick the system while trying to root it, you will be able to restore the firmware without any other inconvenience. As you can see, I have explained all the aspects and precautions related to the operation described in this guide. So, make sure you complete the up mentioned tasks.
Finally, here are the last things that must be completed before starting the proper procedure. Be aware that you need to have access to a Windows running computer, to your phone and to its USB cord for being able to connect the same with the PC. Then, do the following:
  • Charge the battery of your handset or check if there is at least 60% of power left.
  • Uninstall any kinds of security tools from both the PC and phone. Usually these programs are interrupting the operation and we don’t want that to happen. You can re-install the apps once you have successfully rooted your S2.
  • On your smartphone go to setting and then Applications -> Development -> USB debugging and check the last one. You will enable the USB debugging option for being able to use the handset with the computer.
Again, remember to read all the lines from above as it is essential to perform all the pre requisites. In this way you can avoid bad things for happening and you will ease your work. Anyway, you can start rooting your Galaxy S2 now:
